Is Alternaleaf qualified to offer alternative health services?

Yes. Alternaleaf is Australia’s largest alternative health clinic with 150+ qualified doctors and nurses supporting a variety of patients.

Alternaleaf doctors are registered with the Medical Board of Australia, and hold relevant TGA authorisations in relation to alternative healthcare services. All of our practitioners are listed with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Can I access Alternaleaf if I live outside of major cities?

Of course. Alternaleaf is a fully remote alternative health clinic. You can get telehealth care from the comfort of your couch, anytime it suits you, Australia-wide.³

About bookings

Do I need Medicare to book an Alternaleaf consultation?

No, you don’t need a Medicare card to access alternative healthcare with Alternaleaf.

How can I book a consultation without a Medicare card?

Provide your Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI) number to book an appointment.There’s a few ways to do it:

‍Online: The quickest way is through your myGov account. If you don’t have one, you can create an account on the myGov website.

‍Form: You can also download the Request an Individual Healthcare Identifier form (MS003) from Services Australia.

What is Alternaleaf's cancellation policy?

We need at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Any less than that and you may be charged. This supports better access for all patients.

I had to cancel my consultation. How do I rebook?

If you’re already an Alternaleaf patient, you can rebook your consultation on the Patient Portal.

If you’re not a patient yet, we kindly ask you to book through one of our emails or from our home page at alternaleaf.com.au.

How do I cancel my consultation booking?

Cancelling is easy. Simply click cancel in your original booking confirmation email. Alternatively, you can manage your bookings through the Patient Portal.

If you can’t find your email or need further assistance, reach out to our Patient Care team at info@alternaleaf.com.au and they’ll help you out.

Can I reschedule my Alternaleaf consultation booking?

Sure thing. You can reschedule your appointment free of charge up to 24 hours before your scheduled time.

If it’s less than 24 hours before your appointment, you’ll need to cancel and book a new one. You can reschedule or cancel your booking by clicking the link in your confirmation email.

You can also manage follow-up appointments on the Alternaleaf Patient Portal. If you need help, please reach out to our Patient Care Team at info@alternaleaf.com.au.

How quickly can I book a consultation?

We pride ourselves on providing care when you need it. You can book as quickly as a same-day consultation.³ Easy.

Do I need a referral to book in for a consultation?

No referral, no worries. All you need to do is book your appointments online and our practitioners will consider if you’re eligible for our services. In some cases, our experienced clinicians might need some additional supporting documentation to check if you’re eligible for alternative healthcare, depending on your circumstances.

Consultations and Ongoing Care

Can I speak with a clinic staff member for free?

For sure. We understand that sometimes you’ve got a quick question to ask between your consults. So we’ve got an experienced clinic team on hand to help you at no extra cost. Simply log into your Patient Portal to ask a question online, or email info@alternaleaf.com.au.

Do I need to pay for follow-up consultations?

Yes, you’ll need to pay for each follow-up consultation but there are no hidden fees. Each consultation with an Alternaleaf doctor costs $29, no matter what your care journey looks like.

What’s included as part of my ongoing patient support?

As an Alternaleaf patient, you’ll get access to our round the clock support services from our Patient Care Team. If you have any questions while you’re with us, you can access support through your Patient Portal or email info@alternaleaf.com.au.

Of course, if you have any questions for your doctor you’ll be able to book follow-up telehealth appointments throughout your care journey.

When is payment for the consultation taken?

You’ll only pay for your doctor’s consultation after you complete the nurse consultation and we’ve booked you in. No payment’s taken ahead of the nurse consultation stage and you are not obliged to proceed to a doctor’s consultation even if you complete the nurse consultation.

What is the difference between the initial nurse consultation and the doctor’s consultation?

First, we’ll conduct an initial nurse consultation to go over your medical history and other important details. This appointment lasts about 20 minutes so you have plenty of time to ask questions and raise any concerns.

Then, if the nurse thinks you might be eligible for our services, your nurse will book you in to see a doctor. The doctor’s appointment will confirm whether you are eligible, and if so, will focus on your care journey based on what you discuss during your screening process.

We offer telehealth in this thorough two-step process so you can get care that’s right for you.

Why does Alternaleaf offer a complimentary nurse consultation?

We don’t charge for your first nurse consultation so you can access quality care and get a chance to ask any questions about our services before becoming a patient. It means our onboarding process is obligation-free.

In your initial consultation, you’ll talk to a nurse about your medical history, symptoms and any concerns you might have. If they think our services might be appropriate for you, they’ll then pass on these details to a doctor who will make an assessment and, if appropriate, create your care journey.

FYI, you don’t have to progress to see a doctor if you don’t want to or if alternative healthcare isn’t right for you.

What are the ongoing costs for alternative healthcare services at Alternaleaf?

Everybody’s alternative healthcare journey is a little different. So the ongoing costs differ as well, depending on your doctor’s recommendations.

When you need to speak with your doctor, follow-up consultations cost $29. Your doctor will recommend when you should return for a follow-up.

If you ever need to speak to our Patient Care team over the phone or email — that’s free.

How much does a consultation cost?

Your initial consultation at Alternaleaf costs $29. This includes both your initial appointment with a nurse and follow-up with a doctor. You’ll only be charged after your nurse consultation if the nurse considers you eligible to proceed to a doctor consult.

Follow-up consultations where your doctor reviews your progress also cost $29.

Is there a minimum age for a consultation?

Yes, at the moment our clinic is for adults. So, you have to be at least 18 years old to see an Alternaleaf practitioner.

Why might I need a follow-up consultation?

Our clinic provides ongoing personalised care and follow-up consultations are an important part. Your doctor can check your progress and make any necessary changes. If you're eligible for our services, your doctor will recommend when to return for a follow-up.

Are Alternaleaf consultations telehealth or face-to-face?

Alternaleaf is a remote alternative health clinic. You can book online consultations from the comfort and privacy of your own couch.

Does health insurance cover alternative healthcare?

It’s best to get in contact with your health insurer to check before making a claim. Many private health insurers cover some or all of the costs — but some major insurers still don’t cover alternative healthcare.

What is an Alternaleaf patient card, and how do I get one?

Your Alternaleaf personalised patient card provides proof you’re an alternative healthcare patient. We’ll ship it to your home after your first consultation.

Do you offer benefits to concession cardholders?

Yes, we’re concession card ready. At Alternaleaf we offer eligible concession cardholders ongoing support because we believe everyone deserves affordable, quality care.

There’s a few cards we take:

Commonwealth-issued Health Card
Veterans Card, or
Seniors Health & Pensioner Concession Card.

Can I claim my consultation through Medicare?

No, unfortunately you can’t claim Alternaleaf consultations through Medicare right now.

About Concessions

Do I get a concession discount on top of other promotions?

Yes, you’ll still receive your 15% concession discount on top of any other promotional offers on consultations.

How much are consultations for concession card holders?

As a concession card holder, you’ll pay $24.65 for each doctor’s consultation — both initial and follow-ups. That’s 15% off our standard consultation price ($29).

What type of concession cards do you accept?

The Alternaleaf Concession Program is available to all holders of a Commonwealth-issued Health Card, Veterans Card or Seniors Health & Pensioner Concession Card.

What if my concession card expires?

If your card expires, your membership of the Alternaleaf Concession Program will lapse and you'll lose access to your consultation discounts. You'll need to submit your new card details by emailing info@alternaleaf.com.au.

How do I get a concession discount if I'm not a patient yet?

No stress. One of our friendly nurses can help organise your discount during your first consultation.

Simply come to your consultation with one of these cards:

Commonwealth-issued Health Card,
Seniors Health & Pensioners Concession Card, or
Veterans Card.
